About de Trini

I’m Cirella Jones and I'm a visual artist. Born and bred in Trinidad, I migrated to New York in 1997 to live permanently and I now reside in East New York Brooklyn. When I was younger, yes I loved to color and draw and just be as creative with every and anything. I especially took a liking to fabric design; printing and tie-dye. I'm from a very colorful and vibrant culture that's Trinidad and Tobago……di carnival and di bacchanal.....ah trini type ah scene!!!!

I reference the Trini greats like Boscoe Holder, Jackie Hinkson, Leroy Clarke and of course Ms Pat Bishop. Like the greats, I love to use color and shape and texture my paintings reflect just that. Lots and lots of color, themes reflecting women of color, without any real facial features, big lips, of various shades, unique natural hair styles, extravagantly bright and showy accessories from necklaces, hair and ear pieces of different shapes and globs of paint adding texture.

In 2010, I had my first professional show in Brooklyn just to get my feet wet. It was me and my family, and some folks from around....no media coverage, not even a corner in a magazine or a website as a highlight. I just wanted folks to see my work and they did, I wanted to see my work on that exhibition level and I was content. Haven’t sold a painting though….ever, but at some point in my painting life I figure I will.

Presently, my themes are improving, my style of painting is improving, I'm venturing out the box just a tiny bit and getting some good results. I'm into fine details now like tattoos and face paintings, beads, nipples and thongs. I’ve learned one thing as an artist that its hard to be you and stand by your imaginative spirit. You're pretty much not normal when you follow your mind. My goal going forward is to paint, put out as much work for the next few years given the will. I'm interested now to hear what people have to say and if my work is worth their investment....so thank you for visiting my website!

Bless!
